Best — low purine
Eggs and egg whites, low-fat dairy. Dairy protein actively helps
your body excrete uric acid, so cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and the whey in your
packets all work in your favor.
Good — fine at 8oz
Chicken breast, turkey breast, pork tenderloin, cod, tilapia,
haddock, halibut.
Twice a week, no more
Salmon, tuna, trout. Higher purine, but the omega-3s earn their place.
Not for eight weeks
Beef, lamb, pork belly, organ meats, shrimp, scallops, mussels,
crab, lobster, sardines, anchovies, mackerel, herring — and beer. Beer is the worst
single offender for gout; brewer's yeast is loaded with purines.
